Where your audio and transcripts go — and what stays on device.

Updated 2026-04-192 min read

On-device transcription

Speech-to-text runs on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your audio is not uploaded for transcription.

Apple Intelligence stays on device

When Apple Intelligence is available, summaries, action items, and content tagging also run on your iPhone. Speechy only falls back to another on-device model, or a cloud service, if Apple Intelligence can't handle the request.

API keys stay on your device

If you configure OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or a custom service, your API key is saved in iOS's secure storage. It stays on your iPhone and is only sent along with the requests you make to that specific service.

Cloud services stay optional

Cloud models only see the content of the specific chat or action you send them. Speechy does not upload your transcripts or audio to any Speechy server.
